PONTON is in many ways a special employer and more than a classic software company.
We provide high-quality software systems, at the same time, we engage in innovation projects and even initiate consortia to explore latest technology combined with innovative business models.
As we have been working together for over twenty years, we feel like a family: from organising software development tutorials for our children towards pension plans for our veterans.
We want to feel good at work – after all, we spend most of the day together.
FOUNDERS
PONTON was founded by Michael Merz and Tilo Zimmermann in 2001. Michael and Tilo have been working together ever since, combining their different approaches, temperaments, and ideas for the best of our clients and company.
Dr. Michael Merz
Managing Director and Co-founder
Michael has been a pioneer in IT since 1984. With dual degrees in economics and computer science and a PhD from Hamburg University, he’s a recognized authority in the field. Michael has authored several books on IT and is renowned internationally as an expert in crypto technology.
Tilo Zimmermann
Managing Director and Co-founder
Tilo brings a wealth of knowledge with M.Sc. degrees from TU Berlin and the University of Michigan, where he was a Fulbright scholar. As an expert in regulatory compliance in energy trading, he also oversees governance and legal matters, ensuring our operations are always in top shape.

Thomas Sonnenberg
Division Manager
With over 25 years of experience, Thomas excels in developing and implementing standard software products, focusing on project management with large teams. He co-manages our Software Development and Operations division, supporting over 600 global clients in the energy industry. Thomas specializes in settlement and regulatory compliance, ensuring our solutions meet the highest standards. Additionally, he is a member of the Expert Group on Wholesale Energy Market Data Reporting, contributing his extensive knowledge to shaping and refining regulatory frameworks within the energy sector.
Thomas Borscha
Division Manager
Also bringing over 25 years of experience, Thomas specializes in crafting tailored solutions and software products, emphasizing (agile) project management and application consulting. He co-manages the Software Development and Operations division with a focus on cleared trading, B2B integration, and TSO systems.
Stefan Brühl
Division Manager
Stefan leads our business consulting teams, concentrating on strategic and business model development as well as operational excellence for the energy industry. His visionary approach and his almost 15 years of experience as a management consultant in the energy industry helps clients navigate and thrive in the evolving energy landscape.
